Things to do
Belstone is a haven for walkers. The Tarka Trial passes through Belstone Cleave and tracks the River Taw through a delightful wooded valley. A further selection of footpaths, just yards from Moorlands House, give access to the high reaches of the moor. Here the walker will find the stone circles, stone rows, burial chambers and granite tors that make Dartmoor so special.
There are two riding stables in Belstone and cycling along a level stretch of the Granite Way. Okehampton also has a challenging 18 hole golf course. There is superb fishing to be had (with a permit) on some of Dartmoor’s rivers and reservoirs. Cream teas are available in the village during the summer months.

The impressive Castle Drogo is a short distance away and Okehampton has a romantic castle ruin with a haunted past. Dartmoor Prison, with its interesting history of French and American inmates, remains a working prison in the heart of the moor, and the Eden Project in Cornwall provides a fascinating day out.
